The farming community of Malelane is situated within the Maputo Corridor in close proximity to the border town of Komatipoort and Mozambique. Malelane is located on the outskirts of the famed Kruger National Park and is the centre of sugar production in the Mpumalanga Province. The village of Malelane was proclaimed in 1949 and named after the Swazi word for the many palms that are found here. The sugar industry was established in 1965 and influenced the growth of this area greatly. The sugar is processed in the local mill. Access to the Kruger National Park is via the R570 north from Malelane.
