AFRICA
|
A settlement begun by Dutchman Wolterius Dull in 1883 to house Dutch immigrants, it was proclaimed a village in 1893 and named for Dull and the Crocodile River (stream), which flows nearby. The village has four claims to fame: it features the highest railway station (2 076m) in the country, it is known to be one of the coldest towns in South Africa, it is the only place in South Africa where elm and beech trees grow in any number and it is premier trout fishing country. The rivers and streams in the area are well stocked and several guest farms and establishments cater specially for anglers.
