![]() Vivo lies in a gap between the Soutpansberg range and the Bouberg ('blue mountain') in the west. The name is believed to be a corruption of the Sotho word phefo (cold wind) , a reference to the wind that blows through the gap in the mountains all year round. Salt is harvested from a pan in the vicinity. The Blouberg Mountain and Nature Reserve is nestled at the foot of the Blouberg Krans. Here visitors can admire the wolrd's largest breeding colony of Cape vultures. It is an ideal place to picnic under the shady trees while listening to melodious birdsong. The sand-dunes and archetypal Kalahari veld of the Langjan Nature Reserve on the R521, 22 km from Vivo, conserves the last remaining, naturally occurring herd of Kalahari gemsbok in the country.
