AFRICA

"Mountain of iron" is the Tswana name for this peaceful and productive town. The exploitation of iron in the area since 1930 was the main driving force behind the establishment of Thabazimbi. Rugged mountains bordering a bush-covered plain are the setting for the mine and the town that has grown around it. The red soil indicates the enormous amounts of iron it holds, and the ore trains are constantly on the move. Thabazimbi is good farming country, particularly cattle ranching and game farming. Nature and eco-tourism activities are equally important and the region is fast becoming a well-known and popular destination for nature-lovers, hunters, birdwatchers, hikers and campers. The Thabazimbi Bushveld is a well known Hunting Mecca with a high concentration of hunting farms in the area and ample hunting opportunities to be enjoyed by both local and international hunters.
