Ramsgate is a tranquil, laid back small town set among the lush green sub-tropical vegetation of the area. This is banana country. The area is well maintained and has its own conservancy programme which promotes indigenous fauna and flora. Located at the mouth of the Ibilanhlolo river it is surrounded by natural vegetation. The fishing is good, and rocks off the shore abound with mussels. Nearby Margate is the centre for nightlife on the south coast.
