GUIDES

AFRICA

A busy trading and communications centre on what was once a swampland of reeds and papyrus, Mtubatuba was founded in 1903 and named after the chief of the local Zulu community. The town's early years were hampered by flooding and even WW1 - a ship carrying essential parts of what was to be the town's first sugar mill was torpedoed.

Mtubatuba, equidistant from the Indian Ocean and the Greater St Lucia Wetland Park, is ideally located as a base from which to explore the rich Zulu culture and world renowned ecological and game reserves in the scenic beauty of the Mfolozi River floodplain.
