A popular tourist destination, Strand's main attraction is its white, sandy beach known as "the strand". The 5 km stretch of beach provides safe bathing and swimming and nearby entertainment parks offer a supertube, mini-golf and a tidal pool.

Strand is a small town at the foot of the Hottentots Holland Mountains about 40 km from Cape Town. The town, originally founded in 1714, is situated between the False Bay coastline and the mountains and forms part of the beautiful Helderberg Basin, along with Somerset West and Gordon's Bay.

The stretch of coast between Lourens River mouth and Rooi Els is popular with beach fishermen and rock anglers and organised diving activities can be arranged. Strand is conveniently placed to discover the Cape Peninsula. From here you can easily explore the scenic Boland and the wine routes of Stellenbosch, Franschoek and Wellington. The coastal drive to Hermanus, past Gordon's Bay to Betty's Bay is a gorgeous scenic drive and whale watching at Hermanus in season is a must.
